PUBLIC WORKSHOP · HRDC CLAIMABLE · KLANG VALLEY
For people in high-pressure roles who are coping, and know coping isn't the same as coping well.
You're delivering. You're also tired in a way a weekend doesn't fix. This one-day workshop helps you see what's really driving the pressure, work out what you can change, and ask for what you need in terms your manager can act on, before coping turns into burnout.

"I'm fine" is the most common answer at work. It's rarely the full one.
You're hitting your numbers. You're the one people rely on. From the outside, everything looks under control.
Underneath, the cost is building: longer evenings, shorter fuses, the low-level dread before Monday. You compensate, you push through, and you tell yourself it will ease after this deadline. It usually doesn't.
Most advice stops at "manage your stress" or "set boundaries", which is easy to say and hard to do when the workload is real. This workshop is more practical. You'll learn to tell the difference between performing well now and performing well for years. You'll trace the pressure back to what's actually driving it, and sort what you can change yourself from what needs your manager or your organisation. Then you'll practise saying it out loud.
You won't leave with a list of wellness tips. You'll leave with a clear picture of your situation, one realistic request you're ready to make, and a plan for what to do if the first conversation doesn't land.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Executives and senior executives carrying demanding targets or business-critical work
Managers who are holding up their team and running low themselves
Individual contributors and project professionals juggling competing priorities and stakeholders
Anyone who's been answering "I'm fine" for a while and suspects it's no longer true
HR and L&D teams looking for a practical, non-clinical way to support high performers before they burn out
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Spot the early warning signs
Recognise the patterns that show performance is costing more than it should, in yourself and in the people around you.
Find what's really driving the pressure
Separate what you're noticing from what's causing it, and name the underlying need that would genuinely make a difference.
Know what's yours to change
Sort each challenge into what you can change yourself, what needs support from others, and what sits with the organisation.
Ask in a way that gets heard
Turn "I'm overwhelmed" into a clear, specific request about workload, priorities or support that your manager can act on.
Leave with a plan
Walk out with concrete next steps for a real situation, including who to involve if the first conversation doesn't change things.
INSIDE THE WORKSHOP
Four stages, one day.
Recognise what's happening, clarify what you need, discern what you can influence, then voice it.
MODULE 1
RECOGNISE · What is really happening?
Strong performance can hide a growing cost. We look at the gap between performing well this quarter and performing well for years, and at the coping habits that quietly widen it.
The performance paradox: visible results versus hidden trade-offs
Common coping patterns under pressure and where they lead
Early warning signs, and telling what you observe from what you assume
MODULE 2
CLARIFY · What do I need?
"I'm stressed" is hard to act on. Using the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) model, a widely used framework from occupational psychology, you'll trace the pressure to its sources and name what's missing.
How job demands and job resources shape the way you function
Linking warning signs to their contributing factors, using workplace cases
Turning a general concern into a clear, specific problem statement
MODULE 3
DISCERN · What can I influence?
Some problems are yours to solve, some need other people, and some sit with the organisation. Knowing which is which stops you from endlessly compensating for things you can't fix alone.
Mapping what you control, what you can influence and what you can't
Problem-solving versus enduring
Choosing realistic next steps with an impact–feasibility matrix
MODULE 4
VOICE · How do I communicate it?
This is where most people get stuck. You'll practise talking about capacity rather than just distress, and handling the response you didn't hope for.
Communicating workload, priorities and limits in work-relevant terms
Assertive requests, boundaries and renegotiating expectations, practised in role-play
Handling pushback, and knowing when a conversation isn't enough and it's time to escalate or seek support
MODULE 5
CLOSE · Your action plan
We bring the four stages together and apply them to a real or upcoming situation of your choice.
An individual action plan with your next steps and sources of support
Key takeaways and reflection
HOW THE DAY WORKS
The day is facilitator-led and highly interactive. You'll work through realistic workplace cases, reflect privately, discuss in small groups and practise conversations in role-play. You can bring a real situation or work from the scenarios provided.
Nobody is asked to share personal experiences, and what's shared stays in the room. With a maximum of 20 participants, everyone gets practice time and feedback.
INCLUDED
Participant workbook and the four-stage framework to keep
Your personal action plan

QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU REGISTER
Coping means you're getting through the demands, often by working longer, absorbing more or putting your own needs last. It works in the short term. Burnout is what can follow when that pattern carries on without the underlying pressures being addressed. This workshop focuses on the space in between, where there's still time to change course.
Talk about capacity, not just how you feel. Name the specific workload or competing priorities, what that's affecting, and one concrete request, such as reprioritising a deliverable or adjusting a deadline. A specific request is far easier for a manager to act on than "I'm stressed". The workshop gives you a structure for this and time to practise it.
It's a widely used occupational psychology framework. It explains wellbeing at work as a balance between job demands (workload, time pressure, emotional load) and job resources (support, autonomy, clarity, recognition). When demands consistently outweigh resources, strain builds. We use it to help you pinpoint what's actually driving your pressure.
No. It's about raising concerns early and constructively, with specific, workable requests instead of silent overload or a sudden resignation. Managers get clearer information, and organisations keep the people they rely on most.
Yes, if your employer is registered with HRD Corp. Select the HRDC option on the registration form and we'll guide your HR team through the grant application. Applications must be approved 14 days before the workshop date, so please register at least 21 days ahead.
Only if you choose to. Reflection is private, and you can work from the scenarios provided rather than your own circumstances.
