━ WHO SHOULD ATTEND
━ WHY THIS MATTERS
Many workplace issues escalate not because people disagree, but because they avoid the conversations that matter. Employees delay difficult discussions for familiar reasons: fear of conflict, the risk of damaging a relationship, an emotional reaction, or simply not knowing what to say.
Whether it's giving feedback, managing conflict, addressing a performance concern, or speaking up to a manager, courageous conversations are what build trust, accountability and high-performing teams.
This workshop moves participants from avoidance to action with a practical framework for having the conversation, not just thinking about having it.

━ COURSE OUTLINE
This module examines the "courage gap": the space between knowing a conversation needs to happen and actually having it. Participants explore the fears that drive avoidance, including fear of rejection, fear of conflict, fear of damaging a relationship, and simple uncertainty about what to say. By identifying their own conversation triggers and avoidance patterns, participants build the self-awareness that underpins effective conflict management and confident, direct communication at work.
The core of the programme: a practical, repeatable six-step framework for managing difficult conversations and providing effective feedback. Participants learn to clarify the purpose of a conversation, describe the facts objectively and without judgement, share the impact of a situation or behaviour, listen actively to the other person's perspective, explore solutions collaboratively, and agree on clear next steps. This structure gives participants a dependable model for managing conflict, addressing performance issues, and holding accountability conversations, whatever the workplace context.
This module builds the communication skills that determine whether a difficult conversation lands well: assertiveness without aggression, empathy without avoidance, active listening, and the use of powerful, open-ended questions. Particular attention is given to managing emotions under pressure, a critical skill for providing effective feedback and for keeping a conversation about conflict constructive rather than personal.
Not every courageous conversation goes to plan. This module prepares participants to manage conflict when it surfaces as defensiveness, denial, blame, silence, or open disagreement. Participants learn de-escalation techniques and response strategies that keep a difficult conversation productive, a core competency for managing conflict with colleagues, direct reports, or more senior stakeholders.
Participants apply the courageous conversation framework, communication techniques, and de-escalation strategies from earlier modules to realistic workplace scenarios, with structured feedback throughout. This module closes the gap between understanding a framework for managing difficult conversations and being able to use it confidently under real workplace pressure.
The workshop closes by turning learning into commitment. Each participant identifies one real, outstanding conversation they need to have and builds a concrete plan for it using the frameworks covered across the day, ensuring the skills for managing difficult conversations, managing conflict, and providing effective feedback are applied immediately once participants return to work.
