WHO THIS PROGRAMME IS FOR

Built for teams

who solve problems.

Engineers and engineering teams who need practical, structured methods to solve recurring technical and operational issues.
Operations and production personnel and line leaders responsible for quality, productivity, and process consistency
Continuous improvement practitioners who want to strengthen Kaizen thinking and practical problem-solving discipline
Operations and production personnel who contribute to daily improvement, troubleshooting, and corrective action planning.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Instinct has limits.
Discipline creates results.

Operational problems rarely stay neatly inside one department. A quality issue can affect productivity, timelines, customer satisfaction, cost, and team confidence. When teams jump too quickly to solutions, symptoms get treated while the real cause remains untouched.

This programme helps engineering, operations, production, and continuous improvement teams apply a disciplined problem-solving approach. Participants learn how to define the problem accurately, validate what is really happening, identify root causes, and turn analysis into corrective and preventive actions.

The outcome is a more consistent way of thinking and working - one that helps teams reduce recurrence, improve decision quality, and build a continuous improvement culture grounded in practical Kaizen habits.

$122M
lost for every $1 billion invested globally due to project failure - with inadequate analysis often a contributing factor
30%
improvements in productivity reported within organisations applying Kaizen principles.
20-30%
revenue loss annually due to poorly managed processes.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS GAIN

Three capabilities that build operational precision.

01

Structured Problem-Solving

A disciplined way to define problems clearly, validate assumptions, and guide teams toward effective, sustainable solutions using PDCA and 8D.

02

Root Cause Thinking

Participants learn how to move beyond symptoms and surface issues using Ishikawa, 5M+1E, and 5 Whys to uncover true causes and select the most appropriate action pathway.

03

Repeatable Improvement Habits

Through case simulations and practical application, participants convert learning into repeatable on-the-job habits that support long-term continuous improvement.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this programme,
participants will be able to

01

Analyse operational issues and perform structured root cause analysis using appropriate tools.

02

Apply PDCA and 8D frameworks to resolve real-world engineering and production problems.

03

Evaluate data and evidence to make accurate, fact-based technical decisions.

04

Create corrective and preventive actions that address root causes and reduce recurrence.

05

Adopt a Kaizen mindset by incorporating continuous improvement practices into daily work and team processes.

COURSE OUTLINE

What the day looks like

Module 1 - Foundations of Kaizen & Continuous Improvement
  • Origins of Kaizen and the philosophy of small, continuous improvement

  • How Kaizen principles drive quality, consistency, and long-term operational success

  • The difference between quick fixes, corrective action, and sustainable improvement

  • Building a shared improvement language across engineering, production, and operations teams

Module 2 - Structured Problem-Solving (PDCA & 8D)
  • Using PDCA as a disciplined improvement cycle: Plan, Do, Check, Act

  • Applying the 8D framework to define problems, contain issues, identify root causes, and prevent recurrence

  • Clarifying the problem statement before moving into solution mode

  • Validating assumptions and aligning teams around facts, evidence, and shared criteria

Module 3 - Root Cause Analysis Tools
  • Applying Ishikawa / Fishbone analysis to identify contributing factors

  • Using 5M+1E to explore Man, Machine, Method, Material, Measurement, and Environment

  • Using 5 Whys to move from symptom to true root cause

  • Selecting the most effective pathway for technical troubleshooting and corrective action

Module 4 - Practical Case Simulations
  • Working through realistic engineering and operational scenarios

  • Practising structured problem definition and team-based analysis

  • Testing decision-making approaches under ambiguity and time pressure

  • Converting workshop learning into repeatable on-the-job habits

Who should attend this training?

Engineers, engineering teams, supervisors, line leaders, continuous improvement practitioners, and operations or production personnel who need to solve recurring issues more systematically.

What if we only want specific modules?

We can build a customised programme focused on your priority areas. That said, we recommend the full day for maximum impact, as the modules build on one another. Contact us to discuss a tailored solution.

How many participants can attend?

Minimum 5, maximum 25 per session. For larger groups we can schedule multiple cohorts. Contact us to discuss your requirements.

Where is this training programmed delivered?

At your premises or a venue of your choice. Physis Global delivers across Klang Valley (KL and Selangor), Penang, Johor Bahru, and Malaysia-wide.

Is this available as a public programme?

Our programmes are currently delivered as in-house training - directly to your organisation's team, at your premises or a venue of your choice. We do not currently have open-enrolment public programmes.

This allows us to fully customise each session for the organisation and maintain the quality and relevance of the learning experience. Contact us to discuss your requirements and we will propose the right solution.
